A fun and educational game for ages 3 to adult. If youre looking for more than shootmup games and cartoon drawings that use up your kids spare time without them learning much, give them a game with beautiful real tropical fish that will teach them something valuable while they have fun. This game is also is a great hand/eye co-ordination trainer for preschoolers.
Intuitive enough that a 3 year old will get it in a minute, but at the higher levels, it will engage and entertain older kids and adults for many hours.
At the beginner level, kids are shown 5 pictures of underwater life, and asked (by sound and by text) to pick the type (such as coral). After getting several right, they get to add a fish of their choice to a reef scene. This is a great way to get kids to thinking about the underwater life of the ocean.
The reef scene itself is fascinating, an above and below water cross-section of a tropical bay. Players keep adding fish and other items to the scene, and can freely move them around. If they tap elements of the scene, they speak their names or tell about themselves. Kids spend lots of time playing here. As they play, things happen: schools of fish swim across the bay, a scuba diver descends, a swimmer snorkels across, and more.
As they learn more fish, they can play the higher levels, identifying fish by name. There are more than 100 common tropical fish and critters to learn.
At the highest level, you get to see a high resolution, full screen picture of the fish, with name (sound and words) after you identify it.
You can also view a slideshow of the fish, full screen, with names (sound and words).
Needs iOS9 for all features to work.
The pictures are a subset of the sharp, beautiful fish pictures in the Reef Fish and Reef Critters HD series of fish identification apps, such as Reef Fish Hawaii HD. Photos by underwater educator Keoki Stender, design by snorkeling guidebook author Mel Malinowski of Indigo Publications.
For many more fish, details about them, and underwater videos, see the Reef Fish apps by Indigo Publications in the iTunes app store. There is an iPhone/Touch only version of this app called Fish Fun!
